Our Mission Statement

At The Free Store, we are dedicated to nurturing community bonds through our commitment to food security and relationship-building. Our core belief is in the power of rescuing and recycling, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, has access to fresh and nutritious food. We stand firm in our conviction to be a zero-barrier, community-based service, working to support those struggling to access essential food resources. Our mission is not just to feed people, but to foster community spirit and collective strength in the face of adversity.

Zero Barrier

By adopting a zero-barrier approach, the Free Store ensures that dignity, respect, and human connection remain central to its mission. Welcoming everyone, regardless of their circumstances or background. This has been our core value since the beginning of The Free Store.

Under 3% Waste

We partner with local farms to repurpose surplus food, turning potential waste into valuable resources. By maintaining under 3% waste, we prioritize efficiency and environmental responsibility We ensure that each food item serves a purpose and contributes to a more sustainable food system.

We see it too...

Highlighting a concerning paradox in Canada: while food waste continues to rise, so does food insecurity among many citizens. These contrasting trends underscore the urgency of our mission at the Free Store. Dedicated to bridging the gap between surplus and scarcity, we strive to redirect unused resources to those in dire need. Through our initiatives, we not only combat food waste but also address the pressing issue of food insecurity, championing a more equitable and sustainable future for all within our community.
